HHELLBLAUU is one filter up from HELLBLAU
— a single word search term (German for Sky
Blue / Light Blue) that provides results of an
exact color, but that is also a play on filtered
and exoticized language. In English, HELLBLAU
sounds more horrific than serene, and the
case studies here are scenes from the horror
film of HHELLBLAUU's tracking lens — instances
from the database's insensitive anthropological
view in which the color as acting meme plays a
sinister role that incorporates its own vital
logic.

By contributing content to this database you
are helping this synthetic liquid (which has its
own complete matter cycle) spread across
countless horizons, cover objects, and obscure
vision. When you start to track Hellblau and see
it everywhere, it's already taken over.
It will adapt in order to keep going.

What's revealed is a proposed memetic material,
one with its own distinctive aggregational behavior.
Each image-object is a case study which reveals the
existence of this specific material, often acting as
a fiter, an interface, a fetishized packaging, or a
control device, one whose sweet, high-pitched tone
is a mask for deeper and darker intentions.

HHELLBLAUU has been presented in:
TROLL at Envoy Enterprises, New York, 2010
LAND ART FOR A NEW GENERATION, Showroom MAMA, Rotterdam, 2011
COLLECT THE WWWORLD, Contemporary Space, Brescia, IT, 2011
ART N'ELLE ART, Museo di Santa Giulia, Brescia, IT, 2011

Since its first brand impression in 2008, the scenes of
Hellblau have surfaced in the vision and accounts of
many Tumblr users and others online who have
contributed to this project or spun off a new setting.
Eventually it was absorbed into the lexicon of R-U-In?S.
Hellblau will thrive.

"1) Naming, visual identity and other elements of the
Brand come later in the Branding process. It is crucial first
to be as clear as possible what the Brand is conceptually
and then proceed with words, images, sounds,
and processes that define it;

2) Some Brands are not so easy to define so it is
acceptable to proceed with business until the position is
clearer. Sometimes Brand becomes clearer only after
market reacts to its Products;"

Then Norm did this thing for Art21 and snuck a Hellblau citation into the post - see if you can catch it.

Thanks, Norm, for doing your part to keep community morale high.

This is like a mutation of Hellblau, I think…a slightly different flavor. Hellblau sourced from a different social clime? Cultivated in a different lab?

People send me things for my memes all the time, with “Is this _______?” and the answer is usually “no”. But Norm gets a fair amount of these things in the directory, like 50% ? His lens isn’t as evil but he gets it.

“Actually, it’s worse than that. As these quotations attest, Western philosophy is used to dealing with ideas of depth and surface, essence and appearance, or basis and superstructure, and this just about always translates into a moral distinction between the profound and the superficial. So where does colour lie along this well-worn path? Well, if colour is make-up, then it is not really on this path at all, and perhaps this is a part of the colour problem. If surface veils depth, if appearance masks essence, then make-up masks a mask, veils a veil, disguises a disguise. It is not simply a deception; it is a double deception. It is a surface on a surface, and thus even farther from substance than ‘true’ appearance. How things appear is one thing; how things appear to appear is another. Colour is a double illusion, a double deception. It is not just that colour is at the wrong end of a moral opposition; it is perhaps, just beyond the wrong end.”
